1. About these terms
Adhan Connect is provided by Maksums Limited, trading as Maksums Digital Agency ("we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales.
Company number: 15149377 Registered office: c/o Sync Accountants Limited, The Media Centre, 7 Northumberland Street, Huddersfield, HD1 1RL
Contact:
- [email protected] for help, problems and reports;
- [email protected] for mosque matters;
- [email protected] for privacy matters.
These terms apply when you use the Adhan Connect app or website. You accept them when you tap Agree and continue in the app, or when you sign in to a staff account. You can read them at any time at adhanconnect.com/terms and in the app under Settings. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
Our Privacy Notice explains how we handle personal data. Agreeing to these terms is separate from the consent described there.
2. Who can use Adhan Connect
You must be 16 or over to save anything personal in the app or to have a staff account. Parent accounts are for adults aged 18 or over (Section 8A).
Following a mosque means choosing to see its information and updates. It does not say anything about your faith, make you a member of the mosque, or mean you attend it. Anyone 16 or over is welcome to follow a mosque.
3. Using the app without an account
You can browse, follow up to three mosques, set alerts, listen live and plan attendance without creating an account. Your choices are kept against a private identity linked to your phone (see the Privacy Notice).
Keep in mind:
- If you delete the app or change phones, we can't move your choices to the new installation. We don't know who you are, so we can't recover them. Your old data stays on our servers until you or we delete it (see the Privacy Notice).
- You can delete your data at any time in Settings › Delete my data on this phone.
4. Messaging a mosque
To message a mosque you must add and confirm an email address. Messages go to that mosque's team, not to us. Mosques reply when they can, and we can't guarantee a reply or how quickly it comes.
Don't use messages to send anything unlawful, abusive or unrelated to the mosque (see Section 9). For emergencies, contact the emergency services, not a mosque through the app.
5. Prayer times, alerts and the Adhan
- Prayer times come from each mosque's timetable or, where a mosque hasn't published one, from a standard calculation. Times can contain errors. Where timing matters, check with your mosque, and report anything that looks wrong.
- Live and recorded Adhan, and alerts, depend on the mosque, your connection, your phone's settings, and Apple's or Google's delivery services. They can be late, interrupted or unavailable. Don't rely on the app as your only reminder or as an emergency service.
- On iPhone, a locked phone can only play the first 30 seconds of a notification sound. Open the alert to hear the full Adhan.
- We don't give religious rulings. Content in the app, including the Qur'an and Daily Reflection, is provided for information. Please seek guidance from a qualified scholar for religious questions.
These limits don't remove our duty to provide the service with reasonable care and skill (Section 12).
6. Events, classes, appeals and attendance
- Attendance plans tell a mosque you hope to come. They are not a booking or ticket and don't guarantee entry. The organiser decides admission, capacity and changes. Please check important details with the organiser before travelling.
- Classes and courses are run by the mosque, not by us. The mosque sets the fees, terms, enrolment, safeguarding and teaching. Any agreement about a class is between you and the mosque.
- Appeals and donation links take you to the mosque's own donation page or another provider. We don't handle donations, and a link isn't our endorsement or guarantee of the recipient. Check before you give.
Mosques are responsible for the accuracy of the information they publish.
7. Features coming later
We may describe features that are "coming soon", such as student management and parent accounts. These are plans, not promises. We'll explain any new terms before a new feature applies to you.
8. Mosque staff accounts
Staff accounts are for people authorised by a mosque to manage it. If you have one:
- Only use staff tools for a mosque you're authorised to represent, and only within your role.
- Keep published information accurate and correct mistakes promptly.
- Keep your sign-in details safe, and tell us straight away if your authority ends or you think your account has been misused. You're not responsible for misuse you didn't cause or enable through carelessness.
- Imported or calculated times must be checked before you publish them.
- Recordings and broadcasts: only broadcast or upload audio you have the right to share. For a recorded Adhan, you must have the reciter's permission for it to be stored and played to followers. Let people at the mosque know when you're broadcasting live, and avoid capturing private conversations.
- Classes involving children: the mosque is responsible for its safeguarding arrangements, and for having permission before publishing any information or images of children.
A staff role doesn't make you our employee or agent.
Your content
You, or whoever owns it, keep ownership of content you publish (text, images, documents and recordings). You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, copy, adapt for technical purposes, display and transmit it, only as needed to run the service and deliver it to its audience. We may let our service providers do this for us. We won't sell your content or use it in unrelated advertising.
The licence ends when the content is removed, apart from limited backup, security and legal copies explained in the Privacy Notice. We won't republish those copies. Removing content can't undo what people have already received.
8A. Parent accounts (when student management launches)
This section applies once student management is available.
If a mosque uses Adhan Connect for its classes, you can create a parent account to follow your child's attendance, progress and reports. To do so:
- you must be the child's parent or legal guardian, or an adult they have authorised, and aged 18 or over;
- the mosque decides whether to link your account to a child, and may ask you to confirm your relationship;
- keep your sign-in details safe, and tell the mosque if you no longer have responsibility for the child.
The class itself, including teaching, fees, attendance rules and safeguarding, is run by the mosque, and any agreement about it is between you and the mosque. Reports reflect what the mosque's teachers record. Please raise questions about them with the mosque.
Mosques using student management must:
- only enrol children with a parent's or guardian's agreement;
- record only what's needed to run the class;
- keep records accurate, and limit access to authorised staff;
- link each child only to their own parents or guardians.
9. Keeping Adhan Connect respectful and safe
Don't use the service to:
- publish or send anything unlawful, threatening, harassing, hateful, sexually exploitative, or supporting terrorism;
- defame anyone, share private information about others without a lawful basis, or infringe copyright or other rights;
- impersonate a mosque or a person, run fraudulent appeals, or mislead people about events, classes, donations or your authority;
- send spam, manipulate attendance numbers or disrupt broadcasts;
- break into accounts or systems, bypass permissions, spread malware, overload the service, or copy data from it in bulk;
- reverse-engineer the app, except where the law allows it.
These rules don't stop lawful criticism, genuine complaints or responsible reporting of security problems.
10. Reporting problems
Report illegal, unsafe or infringing content to [email protected]. Tell us:
- where it is (mosque, notice, event, class or broadcast time);
- what concerns you;
- how to contact you, if you're happy to.
Please don't send us illegal material itself; tell us where it is instead. If someone is in immediate danger, call the emergency services.
We'll review reports and act proportionately. We may correct or remove content, end a broadcast, limit a feature or suspend access, and we may act quickly where there's a serious risk. We don't check every broadcast or post before it's seen.
If we restrict your content or access, we'll tell you why unless the law or safety prevents it. You can ask us to review the decision by replying or emailing [email protected]. This doesn't limit any other rights you have.
11. Changes to the service and ending access
We may update, change or withdraw features, for example to improve the service, meet legal or security needs, or because a provider changes. Where a change significantly affects you, we'll give reasonable notice where we can.
We may suspend or end access for serious or repeated breaches of these terms, security risks, legal reasons, or if a mosque's authority can't be verified. We'll act proportionately and, unless it's urgent, give you a chance to put things right.
You can stop using Adhan Connect at any time. Deleting your data is explained in the Privacy Notice.
12. Our responsibility to you
Adhan Connect is free. We provide it with reasonable care and skill.
If we break these terms or fail to use reasonable care, we're responsible for loss you suffer that was a foreseeable result. We're not responsible for:
- loss caused by your own breach of these terms;
- events outside our reasonable control;
- business losses, such as lost profit, if you use the app for personal purposes. Any service commitments to a mosque as an organisation would be in a separate agreement.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit. Your legal rights as a consumer, including your data protection rights, are not affected.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms to reflect changes to the service or the law. We'll tell you about significant changes in the app and, where needed, ask you to agree again. Changes won't apply to a dispute that has already started.
14. Complaints and law
Please contact us first at [email protected] if you have a complaint, so we can try to help. This doesn't affect your right to go to court.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you're a consumer living elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep the protections of your local law and can bring a claim in your local courts.
If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
