The short version
- You don't need an account. You can find mosques, see prayer times and read what's on without giving us anything.
- The first time you save something personal, such as following a mosque or turning on alerts, we ask you to agree once. We then keep your choices on our servers against a private identity tied to your phone. There's no name, email or password.
- Your mosques and prayer settings are personal, so we ask before saving them, keep them private, and only use them to run the app.
- No ads. We never sell your data or share it with advertisers.
- Delete it any time: Settings › Delete my data on this phone.
- Questions: [email protected]
1. Who we are
Adhan Connect is provided by Maksums Limited, trading as Maksums Digital Agency ("we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales.
Company number: 15149377 Registered office: c/o Sync Accountants Limited, The Media Centre, 7 Northumberland Street, Huddersfield, HD1 1RL
We are the controller of the personal data described in this notice, except where Section 9 explains that a mosque is responsible for what you send it.
Contact for anything in this notice, or to use your rights: [email protected]
We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer because the law does not require one for a service of our size.
2. Who this notice covers
- Everyone who uses the app (Sections 3 to 7), whether or not you have an account.
- People who message a mosque through the app (Section 6).
- Mosque staff: admins and muezzins who sign in to manage a mosque (Section 8).
- Parents and students, once student management launches (Section 8A).
- Visitors to adhanconnect.com (Section 13).
3. Using the app without an account
You can open Adhan Connect, browse mosques, see prayer and jamaat times, read notices, events, classes and appeals, and use the Qur'an and Daily Reflection without giving us any personal information.
Like any app that talks to a server, your phone's requests reach our hosting providers. They record standard technical information (Section 11).
4. When you save something personal
The first time you do something personal, we show a short screen asking you to agree before anything is saved. Personal actions include:
- following a mosque;
- turning on prayer alerts or the Adhan at prayer times;
- listening live;
- telling a mosque you plan to attend an event or Jumu'ah.
By tapping Agree and continue you confirm you are 16 or over, accept our Terms of Use, acknowledge this notice and agree to us keeping your choices as described here.
We then create a private identity for your phone. It is a random code held by our sign-in provider. It has no name, email address or password, and we do not try to work out who you are from it. It lets the app remember your choices between visits.
Although it has no name, the law treats this identity as personal data, because it singles out your phone. You have the rights in Section 12 over everything linked to it.
What we keep against your private identity
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| A record of your agreement: the date and time, and which versions of the Terms and this notice you agreed to | To show we asked and you agreed | As long as we hold your other data, then 6 years as a record of consent |
| The mosques you follow (up to three) and which one is your Home mosque | To show your mosque's times and news, and send the alerts you choose | Until you unfollow or delete your data |
| Your alert settings: which prayers, how many minutes before, which mosques, live Adhan alerts, and whether the Adhan plays at prayer times | To send the alerts you've chosen | Until you change them or delete your data |
| A push token for your phone, and its type (iPhone or Android) | So Apple or Google can deliver your alerts | Until you turn alerts off, sign out of staff access, or delete your data |
| Records of alerts we've sent you | To avoid sending duplicates, and to fix delivery problems | 90 days |
| Plans you make for events or Jumu'ah (for example, "coming, party of 2"), and events you like or save | So the mosque can plan for numbers, and so you can see your plans | Until 30 days after the event, or until you delete your data |
We do not ask for or keep your name, email, phone number or home address unless you choose to message a mosque (Section 6).
5. Location
Location is always optional. The app works without it, and you can search by town or postcode instead.
- Finding mosques near you. If you allow it, your phone sends its location to our server to find nearby mosques and their next jamaat. We use it to answer that request and don't keep it against your identity.
- Town and postcode search. What you type is sent to a UK postcode lookup service to find the place. It is not linked to your identity.
- Live alerts where you are. If you turn on alerts for mosques near your current location, we keep an approximate area (to about 1 km), never your exact position. It expires within 24 hours.
- Listening live. When you listen to a mosque's live Adhan, we may use your approximate location to confirm you're near a mosque you don't follow. We use it for that check only.
- Directions. If you ask for directions, the app opens your chosen maps app (Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze). That company handles the request under its own privacy policy.
6. Messaging a mosque
To message a mosque, you add and confirm an email address. This turns your private identity into an email account, and your follows and settings stay with it. We then process:
- your email address and the name you give;
- the category and content of your message;
- a callback phone number, if you choose to give one;
- the replies between you and the mosque.
The mosque's admins can read what you send and reply. We email you when a reply arrives, using our email delivery provider. We keep the conversation until you or the mosque delete it, then for up to 30 days in backups. The mosque may keep its own copy (Section 9).
7. Our legal bases
| What we do | Legal basis (UK GDPR / GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Running the features you ask for: follows, alerts, the Adhan at prayer times, live listening, attendance plans, messages | Article 6(1)(b), to provide the service you've asked for |
| Keeping the mosques you follow, your prayer settings and attendance plans (see the note below) | Article 9(2)(a), your explicit consent, given when you tap Agree and continue |
| Keeping the service secure, preventing abuse and fixing faults | Article 6(1)(f), our legitimate interest in running a safe, reliable service |
| Keeping records the law requires, and dealing with legal claims | Article 6(1)(c) legal obligation, and Article 6(1)(f) |
| Mosque staff accounts (Section 8) | Article 6(1)(b), and Article 9(2)(a) explicit consent for your mosque role |
| Parent accounts and student records (Section 8A) | See Section 8A |
Why we ask for your agreement. Data protection law gives extra protection to some kinds of information, including anything that could indicate a person's religion. Information such as which mosques someone follows can fall into that group, whatever the person's own beliefs. So we ask for your agreement before saving it, keep it private, and never use it for anything except running the features you've chosen.
You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your data (Section 12). Features that need it, such as follows and alerts, stop working, but you can still browse.
8. Mosque staff accounts
Mosque admins and muezzins sign in with an email address their mosque invited. For staff we process:
- account details: email, display name and sign-in information (passwords are handled by our sign-in provider and we never see them);
- roles: which mosques you serve and in what role;
- operational records: prayer-time changes, rotas, cover requests, live broadcast start and end times, notices, events, classes, appeals and recordings you publish, and who did what and when;
- microphone: muezzins who broadcast live give the app microphone access. Audio is sent live and we do not record live broadcasts;
- recorded Adhan: if your mosque records or uploads its Adhan, the recording, including the reciter's voice, is stored and played to followers. Mosques must have the reciter's permission (see the Terms of Use).
Your role reveals your connection to a mosque, so we ask for your explicit consent when you set up your account. Staff can download their data and ask us to delete their account from Settings › Account & data, or by emailing [email protected]. Before deleting, we check for things that would leave a mosque without cover, such as a sole admin or upcoming rota duties. Deleting your account removes your profile, roles and rota entries. Notices, events, classes and recordings you published belong to the mosque and stay on its page, without your name.
8A. Parents and students (when student management launches)
This section applies once student management is available. We'll update it, and tell mosques and parents, before that feature goes live.
Mosques will be able to use Adhan Connect to run their classes: enrolling students, recording attendance and progress, and sending reports to parents. Parents will have their own account to see their child's information.
Who is responsible. The mosque decides what student information to collect and how to use it, so the mosque is the controller of its student records. We process them on the mosque's behalf, under a written agreement, and only to provide the service.
Parent accounts. To use the parent dashboard you'll create an account with your name and email address, and the mosque will link you to your child. Parent accounts are for parents and legal guardians aged 18 or over, or adults the parent has authorised. We process:
- your name, email address and, if you choose, a phone number;
- which children you're linked to, and at which mosque;
- the reports and messages you receive.
Student records. For each student the mosque may record:
- name and age or date of birth;
- the classes they're enrolled in;
- attendance;
- progress, such as Qur'an memorisation or level reached;
- teacher notes and reports.
Students don't need their own account, and children's records are only visible to the mosque's authorised staff and the child's linked parents.
Children's information. We design this feature with children's privacy as a priority, following the UK Age Appropriate Design Code:
- we collect only what classes need;
- nothing is used for advertising or profiling;
- each parent can only see their own child.
Mosques shouldn't record health or other sensitive details unless it's needed for the child's safety, and only with the parent's agreement.
Your rights. Parents can use the rights in Section 12 for themselves and on behalf of their child. Because the mosque controls student records, we'll pass requests about them to the mosque and help it respond. Student records are kept for as long as the child is enrolled, then for 1 year unless the mosque needs them longer for a legal reason.
9. Mosques and what they see
Each mosque on Adhan Connect is an independent organisation.
- Mosque admins see totals, not identities: how many people follow the mosque, how many plan to attend, and how many each Adhan reached. They cannot see who follows them.
- Messages: when you message a mosque, it receives what you send. For its own use of your message, for example keeping a copy or following up, the mosque is responsible as a separate controller.
- Published information: mosque pages show information the mosque provides, such as contact details and key staff. The mosque is responsible for having permission to publish details about named people.
10. Who we share data with
We do not sell personal data, use it for advertising, or share it with advertisers. We use carefully chosen service providers to run the app. Each processes data only on our instructions, under a contract.

Technical logs
Our hosting providers record standard technical information for security and fault-finding, such as IP address, time, device type and error codes. These logs are kept for up to 30 days unless needed to investigate a security problem.
12. Your rights
You have the right to:

Without an account: go to Settings › Delete my data on this phone. This deletes your private identity and everything linked to it from our servers immediately: follows, alerts, push token, plans and your agreement record. Deleting the app alone does not remove server data. Use the in-app option, or email us.
With an email account: use Settings › Account & data, or email [email protected] from that address.
If you can't use the app, email us with the mosques you follow and roughly when you started using the app, so we can find your data. We reply within one month.
You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113. If you live in the EU, you can complain to your local data protection authority. We'd appreciate the chance to help first.
13. Our website
adhanconnect.com uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. Our fonts are hosted on our own site, so visiting doesn't send your details to font providers. Our website host keeps standard server logs.
14. Children
To save anything personal in the app you must be 16 or over, and we ask you to confirm this first. If you believe a child under 16 has saved data in the app, email us and we'll delete it.
Children who attend a mosque's classes don't use the app themselves. Their parents can see their records through a parent account (Section 8A).
15. Automated decisions
We don't make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects.
16. Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls that limit staff and mosques to what they need, short-lived signed links for live audio, and separate access for each mosque. No system is perfectly secure, so we keep what we hold to a minimum.
17. Changes
When we change this notice we'll update the date and version above. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app and, where the law requires it, ask you to agree again.
